Your concept should be usable by a broad population: young or old, people with strong or weak hands, and others with impaired hand use and/or impaired vision.
Your concept should be easy to integrate with daily life: portable and aesthetically pleasing in terms of form. It has to be recognizable as an injection device while not appearing overtly medical. The device should appear robust and feel high-quality.
Your concept should address functional requirement as a medical tool, including:

Concept entries are by electronic submissions only. Participants will submit their concepts via the Challenge website for evaluation by an independent panel of judges.
Participant acknowledges and agrees that as a result of independent efforts, Sanofi may have developed or may in the future develop products, technologies, or other information similar to that submitted by the Participant. Since the concepts will be based on the Sanofi criteria, multiple, different submissions may contain similar features and design.
A Participant agrees at concept submission that entered concepts may be publicly displayed on the Challenge website or in print materials, along with Participant’s name. The Participant shall retain all intellectual property (IP) related to their concept, while granting Sanofi the right to publish the concept at their discretion in relation to the Challenge promotion.
An independent panel of judges will select those concepts, which best meet the contest criteria. The independent panel of judges will make their selection based on their sole opinions.
Ignite, the Diabetes Ideas Challenge, a Sanofi US concept challenge (“Competition” or “Contest”) is open to all individuals over the age of 18 at the time of entry, internationally. RESIDENTS OF CUBA, IRAN, SYRIA, NORTH KOREA, SUDAN, MYANMAR, OR OTHER INDIVIDUALS RESTRICTED BY U.S. EXPORT CONTROLS AND SANCTIONS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO ENTER. CONTEST IS VOID IN ANY OTHER NATION, STATE OR PROVINCE WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY U.S. OR LOCAL LAW. Employees, officers and directors of Sanofi US (“Sponsor”) and any of its affiliates, agents, parent or subsidiary companies and advertising and promotion agencies, and members of their immediate families (spouses, parents, children, and siblings and their spouses) and/or those living in the same household of each (whether or not related) are not eligible to participate. By participating, you agree to these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor, which are final and binding in all respects. Void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. Contest is subject to applicable state, federal and local laws and regulations.
Submissions for the Contest can be made beginning 12:01 am EST April 8, 2013, until May 10, 2013, at 11:59pm EST. Sponsor will announce ten winners on the website on May 30, 2013, and each winner will receive an e-mail notification.
TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CHALLENGE:
(A) To Enter: Access the Challenge website and complete the information fields; specifically, your full name, e-mail address, website address, additional IDs, location, concept name, concept description, and an electronic file expressing the visual representation of the concept with callouts describing key features.
All entry information and submissions, including Participant and concept details, shall be collectively referred to herein as the “Submissions” or each as a “Submission.” Prior to uploading your Submission, you must also affirmatively confirm that you have read, understand and agree to these Official Rules by clicking on the check box on the Submission form.
(B) Submission: Each Submission must consist of one (1) textual submission and one (1) visual representation. Submission of a second visual representation is optional. Submit your own original concept to the submission page on the Challenge website. Text submissions must be accompanied by an electronic file expressing the visual representation of the concept: a rendering, diagram, sketch or similar schematic with text callouts describing key features.
(C) Submission Parameters: Submissions (i) must be the 100% original and sole creation of the Participant, and all right, title and interest, including but not limited to the copyright in any Submission, must be owned solely by the submitting Participant, (ii) may not have been submitted in any other competition prior or subsequent to the date of entry into this Promotion, (iii) may not have been published anywhere prior to the date of entry into this Promotion, (iv) may not infringe upon any third party’s rights, including but not limited to copyright, patent or trademarks/tradenames/logos, or rights of privacy or publicity, or contain material that is or may be considered defamatory, slanderous or libelous, or portray or depict any person, product or entity in a false light, (v) must be truthful and accurate in all respects, (vi) may not violate any law, rule or regulation, (vii) may not contain any virus, bugs or other deleterious material, and (viii) may not contain or depict, for example but not limited to, profanity, defamatory statements, words or symbols widely considered offensive to individuals of any certain race, ethnicity, religious, sexual orientation or socioeconomic group, threats to any person, place, business, group or world peace; and each Participant warrants and represents that his/her Submission complies with all of those conditions. Submissions cannot contain, among other things, the trademark, tradename or logo of any third party or entity or product (including but not limited to the trademark, tradename or logo of any product competitive with any product of Sponsor, and including, but not limited to, on clothing), cannot contain, name, depict or describe any person (living, dead or fictional) other than the Participant and cannot contain any material that is protected by copyright. Any non-complying Submission with these Official Rules will be subject to disqualification.
By entering, each Participant grants permission for the use of his/her Submission, and his/her name, and likeness, to be posted on the Internet (including the Website) in connection with the Contest and the advertising, promotion, and publicity of the Contest and otherwise, as stated in these Official Rules (as solely determined by Sponsor); and each Participant warrants and represents that he/she has all right and authority to grant such permission.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, however, there is no obligation of the Sponsor or any other person or entity to post or make any use of the Submission of any particular Participant, or of any Participant’s information. Sponsor will not disclose Submissions until the Entry Period has closed.
(D) Conditions of Submission: Only fully completed submission forms are eligible. Proof of submission will not be deemed to be proof of receipt by Sponsor. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Submission that Sponsor, in its sole opinion, deems inappropriate. Questions concerning the Contest will not be acknowledged or responded to, but technical questions only, for example, that may involve the inability to access the Challenge website, or the inability to attach a visual asset to the Submission, can be sent to . Submissions that do not conform to these Official Rules or are submitted in any manner other than stated in these Official Rules will be disqualified.
Judging Phase: All eligible Submissions will be judged by a panel of judges determined by Sponsor to have the required knowledge and experience to apply the judging criteria. Judging will be based and scored on the following judging criteria and stated point availability for each criterion: (i) Ability of the proposed concept to be usable by a broad population with varied needs, integrated seamlessly as a lifestyle accessory by its users, and meet functional requirements as a medical device (up to 50 points); (ii) Ability of the proposed concept to enable patients and their caregivers to self-administer regular injections of insulin to manage their disease in a way that is differentiated from other solutions in the marketplace (up to 25 points); (iii) Ability of the proposed concept to embody ingenuity in design while improving the quality of life and experience of its users (up to 25 points).
Subject to verification and compliance with these Official Rules, the ten (10) Participants with the highest scoring Submissions will be selected as winners on May 30, 2013. THE JUDGING SCORES WILL NOT BE POSTED OR OTHERWISE AVAILABLE. A Participant is not a winner of any prize unless and until Participant’s eligibility has been verified and Participant has been notified that verification is complete. In the event that a winner is determined to be ineligible or fails to respond to Sponsor within three (3) days of notification, the Prize will be forfeited and Sponsor reserves the right to select the next highest scoring Submission as an alternate winner. Sponsor reserves the right to terminate the Contest without awarding the prizes if no eligible winners or alternate winners claim the prizes within the required time period.
The following prizes will be awarded to each of the ten (10) winners: $5,000
Odds of winning dependent upon number of entries submitted and strength of submission based on the judgment of the judges.
Total estimated value of all prizes is $50,000. There will be no substitutions for prizes. Any applicable taxes are the responsibility of the winners.
Materials submitted may be published in the public domain, royalty-free, by the Sponsor or its agents, in conjunction with promotions of the Contest. All efforts on the part of Sanofi US will be in good faith to maintain correct acknowledgment of the submitter. Please NOTE: Participants retain full intellectual property (“IP”) rights to their submitted concepts.
In the event of a dispute, entries made by Internet will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. The "authorized account holder" is deemed the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, service provider or other online organization that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. A potential winner may be requested to provide Sanofi US with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the winning entry. If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure, human error or any other causes beyond the control of Sanofi US that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, Sanofi US reserves the right in their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.
LIMITATION ON LIABILITY: Sanofi US assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sanofi US is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or entry to be received by Sanofi US on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, any combination thereof, or otherwise, including any injury or damage to Participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the Contest. Sanofi US is not responsible for late, lost, illegible, incomplete, stolen, or misdirected entries. By entering this Contest, each entrant forever discharges, releases, and holds harmless Sponsor and each of its parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, and each of its directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability, claims, losses, damages, causes of action, suits, and demands of any kind arising from or in connection with the Contest, however caused. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY A PARTICIPANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SANOFI US RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
SPONSOR’S RESERVATION OF RIGHTS: These Official Rules are subject to modification by Sponsor. In the event of a dispute, all decisions made by Sponsor are final and binding.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION/CHOICE OF LAW: Except where prohibited, each Participant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Promotion shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the United States District Court or the appropriate State Court located in New York; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with participating in this Promotion, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (3) under no circumstances will participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and participant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased.
All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the participant and Releases in connection with the Promotion, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of New York without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of New Jersey or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York.

USE OF DATA: Sponsor will be collecting personal data about Participants online, in accordance with its privacy policy. By participating in the Contest, Participants hereby agree to Sponsor’s collection and usage of their personal information and acknowledge that they have read and accepted Sponsor’s privacy policy.
If you enter the Contest from outside the U.S., please be aware that information you provide to us or that we obtain as a result of your entry may be processed and transferred to the U.S. and be subject to U.S. law. The privacy and data protection laws in the U.S. may not be equivalent to such laws in your country of residence. By participating in the Contest or by providing us with your information, you consent to the collection, transfer, storage, and processing of information to and in the U.S.
